Purpose in Life

Your Culture

Individualist with a yearning for collectivism.  I want to be embraced in a culture where everyone is ‘family’ but when I desire to be apart, I want to be apart.  I want to have my cake and eat it too.

In the words of the late James Brown, “This is a man’s world, but it would be nothing without a woman or a girl”.  I definitely believe that there should be equality between men and women but I believe that men and women have different roles.  Both have places of leadership within certain positions but a man should always be a ‘covering’ over a woman.

I definitely believe in respecting a person’s role within a position of authority even if I do not respect the person as much.  I do not place myself in a position of equality towards authority but I do exercise my right to voice any issues.

I am a very structured and analytical person and am frustrated with chaos and the unknown at times. I am all about detail and order.

A mix of the two.  I live in the now but prepare for the future.  I seek to enjoy my life in the present within limits because I want to be able to enjoy my future as well.

My moral source is the God of the Bible.

I believe that there is a distinction between fact and truth.  A person can see something right before their eyes or have an experience that cannot be argued against and it can seem like truth because it is real but I believe that truth without the reality of God is just a fact.

I believe every person has a body, soul (mind, will and emotions) and spirit and that there is a life after death in the physical and earthly realm that is eternal.

God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Each person born into the Earth has a divine purpose.  It is up to each person to find out that purpose and live it out.

Host Culture

Collectivist.  Close long-term commitments to member-groups (Hofstede).

“In masculine countries people “live in order to work”, managers are expected to be decisive and assertive, the emphasis is on equity, competition and performance and conflicts are resolved by fighting them out” (Hofstede).

“Mexico is a hierarchical society. This means that people accept a hierarchical order in which everybody has a place and which needs no further justification. Hierarchy in an organization is seen as reflecting inherent inequalities, centralization is popular, subordinates expect to be told what to do and the ideal boss is a benevolent autocrat” (Hofstede).

High dimension on avoiding uncertainty (Hofstede).

High in indulgence. “People in societies classified by a high score in indulgence generally exhibit a willingness to realise their impulses and desires with regard to enjoying life and having fun” (Hofstede).

“Day of the Dead” A day to celebrate those that have died. This is an occasion celebrated each year to celebrate the lives of those that have passed (Miller, 2006).

The Mexican culture mostly consists of Catholicism (Cartwright, 2011).
